It is the only locally-owned medieval village with more than 100 permanent buildings in Central Texas. When and where is the Sherwood Forest Faire?

The Sherwood Forest Faire is located in McDade, Texas, about 35 miles east of Austin. It takes place weekends, rain or shine, from February 28 through April 19, 2026. It is also open Friday, March 20. The festival runs from 10 am until dusk each day. 

How much does it cost to attend the Faire?

Tickets for the Faire are $18 for kids and $30 for adults if tickets are purchased in advance online. Tickets cost more at the gate. Kids five and younger are free. Activities, food, etc will require an additional purchase. While many of the vendors will accept credit cards, it is advised to bring cash. Many of the rides and games still operate with cash only.

What is there to do at Sherwood Forest Faire?

So much! There are more than 150 live shows every day. Guests can enjoy everything from knife throwing to comedy acts and stunt shows to dog shows and tea parties. The hardest part of the day will be figuring out which shows to prioritize as they are all fun and worth your time! Guests can also shop with more than 170 local artisans peddling everything from soaps to clothing and everything in between. There are also rides and more. There is so much to do at the Faire that one day may not feel like enough. 

Do I have to dress up in period attire?

Nope! Dressing up in medieval-type costumes is definitely not required to attend the festival. Although many patrons will dress up in some fashion, many will also come in blue jeans and tshirts. However, after a day at the fair, you may be inspired to purchase your own renaissance attire!

What is there for kids to do at the Faire?

Kids will have a blast at this festival, learning about medieval times and engaging with period-appropriate activities. They can attend the Children’s School of Sword show, where they will learn, hands-on, about handling swords. They may also enjoy the Faery Tea Party, which takes place daily and incorporates light snacks and drinks. The Fool Hearty show is also fun for kids as it involves six dogs and a pig! Kids will also enjoy the rides, the shops, really everything. Be sure they save their allowance so they can buy souvenirs from yesteryear.
