Texas lakes hold many varieties of fish, from catfish to bass and everything in between. If you’re traveling through Amarillo this summer, you can plan a stop at one of these great spots and see what you can get to bite.     • If you’re looking for a fishing hole with a view, Palo Duro State Canyon, about 30 miles southeast of Amarillo, is the place! This serene lake offers stunning views of the natural surrounding landscape as well as a tranquil fishing experience. You can expect to catch bass, crappie, catfish and sunfish here. 
    • Head north out of Amarillo to Lake Meredith on the Canadian River for a great fishing spot with multiple fishing piers and boat launch areas. Expect to catch bass, walleye, catfish and more at this reservoir with pretty views to take in as you cast your line. 
  • Caprock Canyons State Park offers excellent fishing at Lake Theo. About 40 miles northeast of Amarillo, Caprock Canyons is a great destination to view all kinds of wildlife before or after you attempt to catch your dinner. Expect to catch bass, crappie, sunfish and catfish here. 
  • Located on the Salt Fork of the Red River, Greenbelt Lake is just 60 miles east of Amarillo and totally worth the drive. This peaceful lake is a great place to spend a day with Mother Nature. Expect to catch bass, crappie and catfish on this small lake that offers big fun for fishers.
